Description

Access: Leave Quimper through the Green Mill quarter (north-west), follow the D63 called Veille Route de Locronan and continue to a place called Ty Planche where the car park is situated at the start (5-6 spaces).

(S/F) Take left on the Quimper-Douarnenez railway and follow for about 600 m until the former home of the gatekeeper, No. 519.

(1) Leave the cycle route to the left and follow the small, quite steep road. Ignore all roads both the left and right. Pass through the access point to Kerval farm and bear right at the fork (2). Now continue downhill, passing the road at a place called the Hermitage on the left and the next one also.

(3) Turn right, cross the small stream and continue this road uphill. Join another road facing the stair tower, the only vestige of Manoir Saint-Alouarn.

(4) Turn right and descend towards the Moulin de Saint-Alouarn where we find the old railway we left earlier.

(5). Turn left twice and continue on this path. Follow it for about 1.5 km, it overlooks both sides of the wetlands. Leave it at the former home of the gatekeeper at No. 524.

(6) Follow the road to the right that climbs gradually and ends facing the hamlet of Ty Mignon.

(7) Take a slight right down to the Moulin de Saint-Alouarn and pass between the water reservoir and the mill.

(8) Turn left and follow the cycle route for about 2 km to reach the car park (S/F).

During the walk or to do/see around

- Manoir de Saint-Alouarn: Of this mansion, there only remains a large room and the stair tower that served two buildings on several levels. In 1596, the famous brigand La Fontenelle trapped supporters of the monarchy in here and set fire to it in 1597.
Louis François Marie Aleno de Saint-Aloüarn was famed for his southern expeditions accompanied by Yves de Kerguelen. In 1772, he took possession of Australia for King Louis XV.

- Moulin de Saint-Alouarn: This beautiful feudal mill still stands with its pointed gable, supported by buttresses, and a plumed skylight.
It stopped working about 25 years. Its current owner runs a small electricity station (4-5 KW).
