Description

By the D657 linking Metz to Pont-à-Mousson, go to Jouy-aux-Arches (11 km). Leaving Jouy in the direction of Corny, take the road on the right leading down to the football field and fishing ponds. Go straight passing the football field on your right and park just before you get to the first ponds.

(S/F) Go straight through between the ponds until you reach the banks of the Moselle.

(1) You are on Voie Charles-le-Téméraire that connects Apach to Novéant-sur-Moselle by an 80 km bike path. Turn left on the bike path (pedestrians are allowed) and walk to the Corny/Dornot (1939-1945) memorial

(2) Leave the cycle route still continuing straight along the Moselle until you reach the road to the Corny-sur-Moselle marina and camping site.

(3) Turn right, walk past the harbour and the entrance to the camping site then join the cycle route that runs along the camping site and the Moselle. After the camping site leave the cycle route by continuing to walk along the Moselle to the large bridge across it.

(4) Turn left and go up a bit towards the village of Corny. Turn right in a hairpin bend and take the bridge that takes you to Novéant-sur-Moselle. After the bridge, turn left and go past the Novéant train station as far as the D6.

(5) Cross the road, turn left and then immediately right on a small path heading upwards. At the top of this road, take the road to the right then the first left. Stay on this street until it becomes a big path that will lead you to the heights of Dornot.

(6) Keep right at the Calvary and go down to the village of Dornot. Take the first left (Rue de la Paule) and go straight through a forest path that will take you to the heights of Ancy-sur-Moselle.

(7) Turn left and go 80 m to Rue de la Barre. Turn right and go down the village on the Rue F. Guepratte then Rue de Lorraine as far as the roundabout.

(8) Take the second exit, almost in line, then the first right (Rue des Jardins). Follow this street then along a path straight ahead as far as the Quarrés quarter and the street of the same name.

(9) Head up this street on the left and take the first right until you come to the GR5 on the right, about 100 m away.

(10) Take the GR to the right and continue straight on. Go past the ruins of the Roman aqueduct coming from Jouy-aux-Arches to then arrive at Ars-sur-Moselle.

(11) Head down on the right to the main street of Ars. Turn left and go to the large roundabout. Take the first right (D11) towards Jouy-aux-Arches. Cross the railway lines and a branch of the Moselle and finally the Jouy dam and power plant.

(12) After passing the station, turn right and go down to join the cycle route. Continue this cycle route along the Moselle and the village of Jouy-aux-Arches to reach the WP (1) and then the car park turning left (S/F).

Useful Information

Always stay careful and alert while following a route. Visorando and the author of this walk cannot be held responsible in the event of an accident during this route.

During the walk or to do/see around

Make time for the Roman ruins, namely:
The aqueduct, which connected Gorze to Metz, is a Roman aqueduct built in the early second century.
The route stretched over 22 km and linked the source of the Bouillons near Gorze (Alt: 208 m) and Metz (Alt: 184 m).
The canal’s arch bridge runs for 1.125 km across the Moselle between Ars-sur-Moselle and Jouy-aux-Arches and had over a hundred pillars, there remain only the 16 contiguous arcs and the sump on the side of Jouy and 7 arcs on the Ars side.
The remainder of the water is underground.
