Perhaps the most beautiful walk along the Causse Méjean, which traditionally starts out from Le Rozier.
Here, by starting on the cliff top, there is less vertical drop, as you stay between 870 and 720m the whole way.
As well as breath-taking scenery, you can see vultures circling above you and even below you on the cliffs!
Description
The hamlet of Cassagnes can be reached via Saint Pierre des Tripiers on the Causse Méjean or via Le Truel in the Jonte Gorges. The car park is situated alongside the footpath (GR6) just after the hamlet of Cassagnes.
(1) Follow the GR footpath "Tour du Causse Méjean" (red and yellow waymarks) on the left (south). After about 1.5km, the footpath comes out on the edge of the Jonte gorges (2). Continue west. After about 800m there is a beautiful viewpoint, the Balcon du Vertige (3).
Continue west and take the Pas du Loup (4), a narrow passage that leads to another beautiful viewpoint between the Vase de Chine and the Vase de Sèvres. Continue along the footpath which bears off to the north.
At the 2 Canyons pass (5), turn right (northeast) on the footpath that takes you up above the Tarn Gorges to reach the Fontaine du Teil (6). Take the path on the left a hundred metres before the spring.
Continue northeast and then turn right (east) to head back to Cassagnes along the GR6.

Useful Information
Exit 42 of the A75 motorway takes you to Les Vignes, at the foot of the Causse Méjean in the Tarn Gorges.
Exit 44.1 takes you to Truel in the Jonte Valley.
