Park your vehicle in the car park below the RD2, opposite the post office and town hall.
(S/F) Turn left towards the bridge. At the junction, turn right, follow the GR 42 (Red and White markings) and cross the bridge over the Lavezon. Immediately after the bridge, take a small staircase that descends to the right. Head along the Lavezon and its north-westerly dam. At the next fork, turn right on Chemin du Champ de Tir. Reach a ford, cross it and go straight to a junction.
(1) At this junction (signposted “ancien champ de tir"), continue straight towards Col de Chabanet and leave the GR42. Pass by the houses and arrive at a small lawn. Turn left onto the very steep narrow path that heads up through the bushes. This trail is marked in Yellow and White.
At the next two intersections, turn right. Continue the climb, a view emerges gradually over the Rhône valley. At the next intersection, turn right and then left about 200 m further on. Follow the ridges. At the crossroads of a track, go straight and reach the Col de Chabanet.
(2) This pass (with a signpost with directions), take the left track towards the Freydières. Pass under the power line and reach an inverted fork (the Carcot mast).
(3) Continue on the left towards Merlet (markings become inconsistent). Pass the hunters’s cabin at a place called Volle and continue on this track. Pass a high voltage pylon and, after about 50 m, leave the track. Turn left in a hairpin bend and head down a wide path into the valley of Liaud. Cross the stream and climb across to the next crossing. Continue straight onto the road.
(4) At the intersection (the Merlet mast), go straight (south-west) to Sauzet on the paved road towards Les Audouards. Pass near the farm Chenavari where the small road turns into a trail.
(5) A dozon or so metres after the farm just before a bend, turn left on a wide unmarked path, more or less identifiable by a piece of white string/ribbon. Follow this trail staying on the crest and reach a wide grassy track. The track on the left towards the Peak of Chenavari.
The track gives way to a very wide stone path leading to a plateau.
(6) The crossing towards the Peak of Chenavari. Begin the easy climb to the top of the peak.
(7). Retrace your steps to the grassy trail taken on the way up. Follow it up for a few minutes as far as
a small cairn, on the left of the track, marking the start of a well maintained trail.
(6) Turn left onto the trail, head down to the road and follow it to the left as far as the next junction (the Audouards mast).
(8) Continue opposite and slightly to the right on the GR42 (White and Red markings) and turn left at the hairpin bend 50 m further on.
(9) Leave the road, turn left on a path where the GR42 continues. Reach a small hill where several trails start.
(10) Then continue along the cliffs following the GR markings. Reach the hamlet of Cheyron (vandalised signpost). Continue on the road and at the next junction turn right (incorrect signpost) to reach the junction of the Videaux signpost.
(11) Continue straight ahead in the direction of Meysse. Follow the road for about 200 m.
(12) Leave the road and follow the path left, down to the Liaud stream. Cross it and continue straight ahead to the next crossing (signpost for Chapelot).
(13) Take the track to the right, following the Liaud stream. Pass near it and above a house. Reach a small road and follow it to (1) along the old buildings of the shooting range.
(1) Turn right in the direction of Meysse, following the route taken on the way out and return to the starting point after crossing the bridge (S/F).
