Description

Access Coming from Eygalières by the road D24, ignore the D25 on the left towards Eyguières/Aureille and instead continue towards Mouriès/Maussane. After a first right-angled bend, park at the next bend, which also virtually forms a right angle, at the top of the rise. If the gate is open, you can park in a clearing, where there is much more space.

(S) Car park at "La Coste Plantier".

No waymarks

Descend towards Mouriès along a path parallel to the road. After about 600m, this path joins the road again opposite a forest track. (1). Cross the D24, go through the gate and continue along this track, which later makes a loop (it is possible to cut across on a well-trodden path). Ignore two adjacent tracks on the right and then another which drops quite steeply to the left.

Red and white waymarks (long-distance footpath GR6)

(2) Continue to the right along the GR6. Ignore a track leading left (buried water tank). A few yards after a second track to the left (fencing), leave the GR to follow a track leading off to the right. (3). Be very careful as you will need to cross the ground above an oil pipeline and the track is not clear at first.

No waymarking

Stay on this good track, which winds its way for about 3.5km through high scrubland at first, then dropping down through a series of bends to rejoin the road crossed earlier in the walk.

(4) Turn left and walk down the road, then shortly afterwards, at a bend, take the first track on the right, which climbs evenly. Ignore a lane to the right, then two good tracks to the left, and continue on this track, which overlooks valleys on either side. There are views of the whole of the range of the Alpilles and its highest point, the Tour des Opies (498m).
Continue past a water tank to reach a junction.

(5) The scrubland gives way to forest. Bear left, and go through a gate. The track curves right. Carry on past a water pumping windmill and shortly after turn right. You come to another track, with a water tank at the junction.

(6) Head right and remain on this good track, ignoring the lanes coming from the left, pass through a gate and return to the car park.
