The Sentier de Sacuny trail

In addition to being a nice hike, this circuit is interesting because throughout the trail signs provide educational information on the fauna and flora, tree species etc. It also helps hikers discover the local agricultural heritage that is everywhere so close to Lyon.

Description

Access:

  • By car. From Lyon, follow the A7 towards Marseille. Exit at Pierre-Benite to turn onto the A450. Exit at Saint-Genis, Barolles Shopping Centre. Continue straight until the big intersection (through 3 traffic lights) and at the 4th traffic light turn left on Avenue Charles de Gaulle. At the roundabout (before the FAMAR factory), continue straight and take the left lane. Turn left at the traffic lights and turn right into Chemin de la Pierre Souvraine. Park downstairs in the enlarged area (10 large spaces at most).
  • 2 options by bus. Take the C10 to Bellecour - Rue de la Charité to Pont d'Oullins. Then either take bus No. 17 and get off at the Barolles Gendarmerie, or finish by foot in the direction of Brignais (opposite direction to the city centre).

The tour starts at the top of the Chemin de la Pierre Souvraine (one-way lane for residents). You can enjoy the view of the Monts du Lyonnais.
.
(1) Head up Chemin de la Pierre Souvraine for 600 m, heading north to the intersection.

(2) Take Chemin de la Vidaude on the left. When it turns right, past pedagogical blocks, take the Sentier de Saguny on the left. Follow this path and go down into the wood stairs that can be slippery. Follow the Yellow markings.

(3) At the fork, take the left and ignore the first departure on this path to the left. You will overlook the Sacuny activity area. Down in the woods observing the bottom sides furrowed and supported by branches. Pass by the next 2 paths to the right and continue back north towards Chemin de Bernicot.

(4) Arrive at a small road (marker 254), take the road immediately right and walk along the fields dotted with shrubs. Cross the meadow. You will arrive on a small road that you take left, this is Chemin du Calvaire. At a cross, it meets Chemin de Sacuny and continues along to the high school. At the next T-junction, turn right. Pass through a first intersection and arrive at a crossing.

(5) Turn right then immediately left in the Chemin de Bellevue that has earned its name. It overlooks the town of Saint-Genis-Laval and is a balcony overlooking the Alps on clear days. Continue on this path until the intersection with Chemin des Oliviers, where you turn right after a few metres.

(2) Turn left to find the starting point.
