Cervières walk

Description
The route starts from the Saint Michel chapel (S/F), park on Route des Fonts de Cervières.
Climb north by a well marked path, reaching the Alp du Pied chalets.
(1) Continue north, passing the ruins of Garnier.
(2) Continue north-east and reach the Alp Haut ruins then join the old military road.
(3) Take a right, and on the left you will find the sheepfold of Peyre Moute. Reach the sheepfold by cutting right through the snow in winter or the mountain pasture in summer. The circuit continues to the east.
Head on past the old military road, go straight and then join the path heading up to Lachau (signposted).
(4) Take this path south-east, then turn due south (5) to take you to the Aîttes all and Route des Fonds de Cervières.
(6) Turn right and return to the starting point of walk at the car park (S/F).

Useful Information
There is a water refill point in Alp du Pied.
Shelter: the Peyre Moute cabin. Note that it is reserved for the shepherd in winter and closed. Nevertheless its a good shelter to rest at.
Equipment: hillwalking gear, and snow shoes in winter

During the walk or to do/see around
The walk ends with a visit to Lake Sarailles, and the customs officer’s lodge. Notably, this area is rich in military buildings (the Gondrand and Maginot forts can be visited in summer). To visit these, contact the association looking after them. Gondrand E
For geology enthusiasts a visit to the nearby Chenaillet is a must. The tour then ends with the Collet Vert and a walk down to the Roséou and Noir lakes and then on to the Bourget plain.
On the other side beneath Le Lasseron another Maginot fort is located on the left bank of the Cerveyrette, the Fort of Aîttes.
