Tour of Lake Cavayère near Carcassonne

Lake Cavayère is the place to visit in Carcassonne when the sun is out. The path around the lake is laid out clearly and is very easy to follow even with children (over ten years). The ever present lake provides a very pleasant setting.

Description

Reach Lake Cavayère located south-east of Carcassonne. A three-level car park has a great number of spaces.

(S/F) From the end of the car park, head towards the lake, passing by the beach on your right below.
Follow the path that veers to the left towards the north. Pass beneath the tree climbing facilities.

(1) Pass through the fence, turn right onto the road and continue for about 150 m, then take the road on the right leading to the dam.

(2) Crossing over the dam should not present any difficulty. Always be careful with children, the slope on the left is steep. At the end of the dam, head up the small metal staircase and continue on the path opposite. Always remain on the path closest to the lake ignoring the paths that head off to the left.

(3) At the fourth crossroads, the shortcut heads out on the left avoiding the passage down to the end of the "cap". Pass by it and continue along the lake by turning right.

(4) Approach the houses, and when passing through, a rustic establishment may offer refreshments depending on the season. Say hello to the goats an the billy goat.

(5) Drive past the leisure centre and visit the toilets if need be.

Back to the car park (S/F).
